Storage & handling

General laboratory reference for storing and handling lyophilized reference peptides and their solutions. This is bench-handling information for in-vitro research — not a use protocol, and not instructions for human or animal use.

Lyophilized powder

Store lyophilized (freeze-dried) peptide at -20 °C, protected from light and moisture, until use. Most lyophilized peptides are stable for extended periods under these conditions. Keep vials sealed and equilibrate to room temperature before opening to avoid condensation on the stopper, which can introduce moisture.

Reconstitution solvent

Select a reconstitution solvent appropriate to your validated assay and the peptide’s solubility — researchers commonly use sterile or cell-culture-grade water, PBS, or an assay-specific buffer. Some sequences dissolve more readily with a small amount of dilute acetic acid or another co-solvent first. Determine the correct solvent and concentration per your own laboratory protocol; this is general handling information, not a protocol.

Solution stability

Solution stability is sequence-dependent. In general, prepared solutions are less stable than the lyophilized powder. Store working solutions refrigerated at 2–8 °C for short-term laboratory use and aliquot for -20 °C storage to minimize freeze–thaw cycles. Consult the Certificate of Analysis for batch-specific data, and confirm stability analytically (for example, by HPLC) for your specific peptide rather than assuming a fixed window.

Freeze–thaw

Repeated freeze–thaw cycles can degrade peptides and reduce assay reproducibility. Prepare single-use aliquots so each is thawed only once. Avoid leaving solutions at room temperature longer than necessary.

Contamination control

Work in a clean area and sanitize vial stoppers with 70% isopropyl alcohol before piercing. Aliquot into sterile tubes for storage rather than repeatedly accessing the original vial. Good aseptic technique protects the integrity of your laboratory stock.
